Supplier Selection Guide
How to Choose a Fireworks OEM Partner:
8 Evaluation Criteria
Choosing the wrong OEM fireworks supplier can cost you a container — or an entire season. Here's how to evaluate Liuyang manufacturers systematically and avoid the most common mistakes importers make.
The 8 Criteria
1. Certification Portfolio
A legitimate OEM manufacturer should hold their own certifications — CE, DOT, ISO 9001 — not just provide them "per order" through a testing agency. Ask: "Do you maintain these certificates ongoing, or do you apply for them per shipment?" If it's per shipment, walk away.
2. Export Track Record
Ask which countries they export to and for how long. A factory with 30+ destination countries and repeat clients over 5+ years is a strong signal. Request references — and actually contact them. A factory that hesitates to provide references is hiding something.
3. Factory Tour / Audit Results
If possible, visit Liuyang yourself. If not, commission a third-party audit through SGS, Bureau Veritas, or Intertek. Key things to verify: production floor organization, raw material storage, QC lab, worker safety equipment, and whether the factory you're shown actually matches the one they claim to own.
4. Communication & Responsiveness
How quickly do they respond? Do they answer your specific questions or give generic replies? A good OEM partner asks intelligent questions about your market, regulations, and requirements — not just "how many containers do you want?"
5. R&D Capability
Can they customize formulations, or do they only offer catalog products? A true OEM partner should have an in-house R&D lab with chemists who understand different market regulations. Ask for evidence of recent custom formulation projects.
6. Packaging Design Capability
Can they design packaging that meets your market's labeling requirements? Do they have in-house designers or do they outsource? Ask to see examples of private-label packaging they've produced for other clients.
7. DG Logistics Expertise
Fireworks shipping is a specialized skill. Does the factory have a dedicated logistics team, or do they just hand everything to a freight forwarder? A good OEM partner handles UN classification, DG packing, container loading, and export documentation in-house.
8. Pricing Transparency
Price should break down clearly: product cost, packaging cost, certification cost, and logistics cost. If they give you one lump-sum price without breakdown, be suspicious. Raw material costs fluctuate — a good partner explains price changes rather than surprising you on the invoice.
🚩 Red Flags
- Unusually low prices: If it's 30%+ below market average, something is being cut.
- Vague about certifications: "Don't worry, we handle everything" without showing actual certificates.
- No fixed address: Some "factories" are actually trading companies with no production facility.
- Refuses sample orders: A factory that insists on container minimums before you've tested samples.
- Communication drops after deposit: The most common horror story in fireworks import.
- No English capability: Communication gaps cause regulatory mistakes that get containers held at customs.
